ATIB Magnetics for E6POS: Continuous Efficiency in the Robotic Cell at Fonderia di Torbole

A Custom Electromagnet to Ensure Constant Lift and Uninterrupted Productivity for Industrial Automation

The Client

E6POS – a leading company in the creation of industrial automation and robotics solutions.
Fonderia di Torbole – EF Group – a company that develops, manufactures, and markets brake discs and drums for the automotive sector.

The Need

Fonderia di Torbole needed to automate the loading of raw parts onto a machine tool for producing disc and drum brakes. Manual loading was hard and unsafe for operators due to the weight and size of the components.

In addition to eliminating the manual phase, it was essential to ensure stable and repeatable pick-up of the raw parts, which were haphazardly contained within a large bin. E6POS, responsible for developing the robotic cell, engaged us to design a magnetic lifting system capable of ensuring reliability, stability, and compatibility with the robot's lifting capacity.

The solution

The goal was to develop an electromagnet capable of picking up a minimum number of parts each cycle and feeding the machine tool with a constant flow (without any machine downtime).
We designed a dedicated magnet, optimizing two key elements:
  • Weight: calibrated to fit within the working load limits of the robot selected by E6POS
  • Lifting force: sized to consistently pick-up more than the minimum number of required parts
To reduce to the necessary amount the number of selected parts, E6POS engineers developed a trimming system that then reduces the quantity lifted to the ideal amount for each cycle. The result is continuous and regular feeding of the machine tool and stable productivity.

The customer's words

"It was a project in which the collaboration with Atib Magnetics led us to develop a new and extremely functional solution," explains Giovanni Baronio, CEO of E6POS, "which ended up with the final setup at Fonderia di Torbole, when engineers from Atib Magnetics, E6Pos, and Fonderia di Torbole completed the final settings and started up the robotic cell to everyone's satisfaction."
